Chapter 1-3: I Have To Live Properly
The next time I woke up, my surroundings were already bright.
With light coming out of the gaps of the tent.
Is it morning? Could also be afternoon.
“…”
It seems like I somehow fell asleep as I cried… My eyelids feel heavy.
I slowly got up from the bed.
Even as I got up and stretched, I’m not as much of a mess as yesterday.
My head injuries don’t hurt as much as yesterday as well. Seems I’m able to move it now.
Yesterday…
Remembering it right now, it felt like a dream.
Though I’m not fond of it that much, the lord’s family helped me out for a year.
We worked together, my fellow coworkers.
That pitiful corpse…
Fear. Despair. And then.
Meeting Louis, I… survived.
More than just living, I have to properly live from today on.
I’ve decided not to cry anymore.
With these eyes of mine, I have to look forward and live properly.
That’s why I have to stop crying.
To do that, I have to first…
…Growl.
“…Gotta eat first, huh.”
Now that I think about it, after yesterday’s attack, I haven’t eaten anything. The last time I ate was breakfast yesterday.
…Where’s Louis?
I looked around the tent, and he wasn’t here.
And for the first time, I noticed it was noisy outside.
Oh yeah, I wonder what the outside of the tent looks like. Now that I say that, I also don’t know where this is.
Thinking about it, I find that frightening.
I carelessly trusted Louis since he gave off a nice person aura, but until where exactly did he bring me to…?
…I had a slightly bad feeling about this.
I resolutely opened the front of the tent, and peeked through.
And then.
“Wow…”
It was the inside of a forest.
But it wasn’t the forest that I saw that made the noises.
There were people.
In the slightly clear area were uniformed soldiers eating, swinging their swords, or chatting. Each were clamoring to do whatever they pleased. Their numbers were probably around twenty.
These are Louis’ comrades… Which means they’re all citizens of the Loganz Empire.
But as I looked, I couldn’t find Louis.
What should I do? Should I try going out?
I shouldn’t. But in addition to being an Istradan citizen, if I were to go out there and be the only woman among those soldiers, I wonder what they would think…
…Growl.
“Ah…”
As if my empty stomach was vehemently protesting, with only my face showing from inside the tent, I unconsciously groaned… At that moment.
“M-morning Fiorentina-chan! Is your wound okay now?”
“Wow, it’s the rumoured beauty.”
“You haven’t had breakfast yet, huh? You wanna have this?”
The soldiers, who were doing as they pleased, assembled all at once.
Unconcerned at how bewildered I was… They talked to me all at the same time.
“Yesterday was terrible, huh. Sorry ’bout that, because of our lack of ability.”
“It’s scary being in the middle of the enemy army, but you don’t have to worry anymore. Since the commander’s here.”
“Yeah, yeah! It’s relieving when he’s around.”
“Eh…U-uhm…”
I-I should probably wait inside the tent until Louis comes back…
Since there were so many speaking to me from all around, my eyes started spinning…
Plus, “commander”…
“Hey, what’s with all the noise?”
Another voice comes from behind the soldiers.
—-At that instant.
“Good morning! Commander!!”
Having chattered about up until that moment, all at once, the soldiers stood at attention, and made way.
That was some coordination…
“Morning. Ah, Fior. You’re up?”
At the same time as the voice,
I turned around towards the path that was opened up, and…
There was Louis.
…What’s going on?
Seeing my puzzled face, Louis smiled with his never-changing good looks.
“Yo. How’s your condition?”
“I think I’m fine now… Wait, don’t tell me you’re someone high up?”
“Eh? Well… I’m more or less the leader of these guys, but I wouldn’t call myself that.”
O-Oh yeah… It’s because of how he usually talks…
Now that I said that, I’m pretty sure yesterday, he mentioned he was a commander.
Even from what he told me then, it seemed like he was entrusted with a really important mission…
…Oh. More importantly.
“Uhm…Can I get something to eat? I feel like I’m gonna die from just hungry I am…”
I unconsciously said in a low voice.
That’s cause everyone again went ‘At attention!’ If I were to talk in this intimidating atmosphere.
Louis laughed at my behavior.
“Yeah, sure thing. We have it ready… I wanted to talk to you about what you’ll be doing from here on out.”
“From… here on out?”
“Yeah. It’s okay to talk while we’re eating, right? Follow me.”
Saying that, he turned around, and walked towards the biggest tent.
From here on out… huh?
I’m pretty sure I have nowhere else to go anymore… I wonder what I should do…
I wonder if Louis… thought of something.
“Oi, come quickly or else the food’s gonna go cold!”
“Ah, wait for me!”
I called out to Louis who was already far ahead, and as always, various “See ya later” and “Take your time” came from the surrounding soldiers.
These guys… With this kind of mood, are they really soldiers…?
I’m grateful for the welcoming mood, but…
As I thought of such things, I rushed inside the tent where Louis was waiting.
Sorry for the late post, I forgot I was supposed to post Thursdays and Sundays for this series. Had classes and homework due today, so I only managed to do it now. If there are any mistakes/weird sentences, please do let me know cause these are pretty much unedited.
But anyways, I really want Louis ugh. Fior’s been talking about how beautiful he is. I need a series to have an elf ML please. I’m gonna jokingly call Louis ‘Commander Daddy’ from now on lol.
