The Sorcerer Wants Normality Chapter 47 min read
Let’s Try Thinking About Magic
It’s already been a few days since I came to this other world.
I… can now safely use magic– ♪
Since then, the doctor lent me his magic textbooks from when he went to school, and furthermore, was able to use several magic spells he demonstrated for me!
What he showed me was so-called Support Magic. Ones without offense capabilities.
Apparently, it’s easier for me to construct offensive magic on my own.
And so, he showed me magic that can temporarily strengthen my body, Strengthen, and detoxification… However.
I can’t use them.
As a doctor and someone who possesses magic, he said that it would be better for me to remember them though.
Body strengthening was similar to my original world when using drugs to dope themselves, and detoxification as well, when taking antidotes.
It’s possible to build these up with just magic powers even though they don’t exist, all because it’s a magic world, I thought.
Though it felt kinda wrong to do this when I thought of exchanging magic powers for medicine instead.
I thought, Maybe because it’s like I’m actually inside a game that my original world would have.
Besides, I know recovery and detoxification magic as HP1 and Status Recovery2, respectively.
This is important. Extremely important. Cause it doesn’t heal real-life injuries.
Even if one got poisoned inside a game, the damage from the poison would only affect your HP. It’s not the same as with real poison.
If it was me, it’d probably be better if I strengthen my body with my magic powers, create a defensive barrier to increase my defense, and for my offensive ability, create a solid weapon and cover it in iron by imagining it with my magic powers. And for detoxification, I might be able to extract the poison out of my body instead.
Moreover, it might be possible to make my body lighter if I were to tamper with gravity, as well as levitate and fly by using it with wind simultaneously. As for flying in the air, I was imagining a bird flying so for stabilizing myself, I’ll add transparent wings.
Flying = Wings is a much simpler idea since flying itself is not exactly something I can properly materialize, so I can only imagine something that helps me fly thoroughly.
The problem is that humans normally can’t fly in reality, so it’s a little scary to think of. I may have had a hard time with that if I didn’t know about angels.
I may come up with a different explanation if I studied a bit more, but right now, that’s how it is.
Putting that aside for now, I don’t think I know how to use weapons. I’ll be able to make it work though if it’s like a kitchen knife.
Besides these, one other thing that’s said to be necessary in a fantasy world is making a barrier.
The barrier that I imagined in my case is one that defends against all attacks so it’s all-purpose. Imagining that, it seems really amazing, doesn’t it?! In other words, wouldn’t it be possible to repel them with just physics and my magic powers as long as I’m aware of them?
…Well, an all-purpose barrier is very advanced stuff, so I was told I can’t expose it.
By the way, the more complicated the knitting for the barrier, the harder it is to break.
My knowledge of knitting that was useful for the barrier impressed the doctor. Has no one ever done it in this world?
And upon learning how to create a barrier, I think that my predictions about my own magic were quite correct.
“For the barrier, it’s better to remember that you can create it by knitting it with magic.”
These were the doctor’s words.
The barrier is different depending on the physics and magic, but it’s mostly magic defense.
For this… It’s still practically magic even if someone materialized water or fire, right?
In other words, the magic one sees is similar to an illusion faithfully reproducing an image. Which is why one can protect themselves with a barrier.
The healing magic they have is a mending of the body to return it to how it was before.
Because it’s something that’s not from the original, it then turns into a normal state.
Which means that congenital disorders, and illnesses can’t be cured.
There’s no point to curing illnesses since they’re only viruses that have entered the body but have done no damage to the original state.
This is this world’s prevailing healing magic.
A game’s healing magic recovers HP, so it would both heal injuries, and recover physical strength, but… It’s better to assume something that convenient doesn’t exist. Since it doesn’t seem possible to recover physical strength with magic.
But above all… It’s because this is reality.
This is just because this way of thinking fits me better. Though I guess these don’t apply to magic made by a Void Traveler. I guess this kind of thing also happens in a world with magic.
Then doesn’t this seem too much like the mystery of an ancient art created with half-baked reasons?
Even when explained, one could only say, that’s just how it is.
It seems that they also imparted practical things like yeast bread and paper manufacturing.
It’d be cool if they also included miso and soy sauce somewhere ♪
And then.
There is only one magic that someone from the same world as me made.
It’s a questionable one that draws visible targets closer.
Seems it’s used to pick up nearby objects when one’s hands can’t be used.
The spell (translated) is pear knot, com3 clawser; the power-filled words are as your lord dictates.
…Doesn’t this person clearly come from the same world as me?
If we exclude ancient times, then this person understood anches better than people nowadays.
There’s no mistaking it– these are those predated, historical words: fear not, come closer.
It’s something that pulls any object closer with no obstructions, so everyone, aside from the creator themselves, wholeheartedly trusts it.
And the doctor said anyone can do it –hahahaha!
Would this count as a dark past– half teasingly creating it, and having a magician successfully invoke it when imparted to them?
Is it like sarcasm4 when you can’t say, sorry, that was a joke when it’s invoked?
Though it’s only possible because they don’t know the spell itself, and stressed importance on the image instead!
So it’s not just limited to magical girls; this is amazing ♪
…
…
You can understand anches and this is what you doooooooooo?!!
Freakin leave more serious magic, will yaaaaaaaaa!!!
Thank you for the reviews and likes!
I’m laughing so hard. I mean, tbh, if I got whisked off to another world and the system was the same, I’d do the same thing and make a joke of a spell and maybe laugh at how future generations would still say it. The guy who made the spell sounds so chuuni.
My plan for this series is trying to translate and catch up as early as possible to what’s been released by other groups, to give it a fighting chance since it seems fairly popular in Japan so there must be something good about it.
Edit: Just a heads up, anches will refer to the language, Anches for the country, and spells for the actual spells (even though they’re called anches as well). The raws use spells for spells as well instead of calling them anches, to make it less confusing. Not for you guys but for me it kinda does lmao.
Notes
- Actually a recovery value called HP but I mean… we all know what HP means, and HP isn’t exactly a recovery value, it’s legit just health points…
- I left out the abnormal part of the raws cause more or less the same thing. I’m using words that we use here in the West so that readers know what the hell she meant
- I’ll be honest, I initially put this as cum since it’s really the only homophone for come I could think of but… I mean, I can if I get enough people telling me to change it to cum lol.
- According to Japanese dictionaries, shiromono can also mean language you use to look down on people
